Into the 60s - Chris Barber s take on jazz was for the blues, folk and Gospel end which had influenced the earliest New Orleans model and via Lonnie Donegan he was in at the ground floor of the skiffle movement-which directly influenced the pre Beatles in Liverpool. In 1969 Barber recorded a piece of music written by Paul McCartney called Catcall-which had been played by the Beatles at the Cavern.Their own version was to remain unissued until the CD AgeBarber was also responsible for a couple of American hits-the Lonnie Donegan hit Rock Island Line and 3 years later the instrumental Petite Fluer.Unlike other Trad Jazzers-Acker Bilk and Kenny Ball-both to have American hits-Barber was not a singer-that was left to his wife Ottillie Patterson.Who is possibly the only person to share a credit with William Shakepeare!
